ZAGREB, Oct 7 (Hina) - The Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) showed a

the 12th anniversary of the bombardment of the government's offices
and tomorrow's Independence Day. #L#
"Those were dramatic historic events which we must not forget, not
to live in the past, but to draw lessons from it," said Ivo Sanader,
the president of the strongest opposition party.
The HDZ is for the entry of Croatia and all its neighbours into the
European Union, and maintains that all open issues with them should
be solved in an atmosphere of cooperation and good neighbourly
relations, Sanader said.
He added that Croatia's determination to defend its sovereignty and
territorial integrity was crucial for its recognition by the
international community.
A senior HDZ official, Vladimir Seks, who was the president of the
parliament at the time it declared the country's independence, said
that the target of the then JNA aircraft's strike on the
government's building, known as Banski Dvori, was the offices in
which President Franjo Tudjman was staying at the time of the
bombardment. According to Seks, this proves that there were agents
in the building who were providing the enemy with information on
Tudjman's whereabouts, but they have not yet been found.
