THE UNITED NATIONS, Oct 7 (Hina) - Croatia advocates the strengthening and reform of the United Nations (UN) in order to be able to respond to challenges of our time such as terrorism and poverty in the world, Croatian representative
with the UN Vladimir Drobnjak said on Monday.

able to respond to challenges of our time such as terrorism and
poverty in the world, Croatian representative with the UN Vladimir

Speaking at a plenary session of the UN General Assembly, Drobnjak
said the UN last year was faced with challenges to peace and
security, and the war in Iraq which shook the foundations of the
world organisation.
"If we learned anything valuable from this, it is that we must act
efficiently and rapidly in order to strengthen our organisation,
Drobnjak told the General Assembly.
UN Secretary General said recently it was maybe time for a radical
reorganisation of the UN, including the organisation of its main
bodies and the strengthening of the role of the General Assembly.
As Croatia's representative with the UN, Drobnjak supported the
implementation of the Millennium Declaration, which is aimed at
reducing the world's poverty by half by 2015.
