According to him, Istria County will base its activities on the
charter and try to promote it in other Croatian regions as well.
The charter, among other things, confirms the need for the respect
of cultural and traditional differences of the peoples of Europe.
The charter also stresses a regional dimension, according to the
principle of subsidiarity and solidarity on certain levels of
authority.
Prefect Jakovcic said he and the president of the Toscana region,
Claudio Martini, agreed cooperation between the two regions. They
also agreed to draw up a development study for rural parts of Istria
which, according to Jakovcic, would be financed by the Italian
Foreign Ministry and the Toscana region.
