Recalling the Navy's past successes, Mesic singled out the capture
of 35 battleships in ports and weapons warehouses, as well as the
defence of the Dubrovnik area, Split and Sibenik during the
Homeland War.
He also recalled the Navy's new tasks, such as organisation and
equipment in line with the standards of modern armed forces.
"You have demonstrated in many bilateral and multilateral
exercises that Croatian maritime forces are competent, trained and
capable of performing all set tasks...
We are getting closer to full compatibility with the armies of NATO
member-countries, which is a requirement which we must meet on our
road to NATO," Mesic said among other things.
