SPLIT, Sept 13 (Hina) - NATO's "Joint Endeavour 2003" military exercise began in southern Croatia's Split on Saturday with the coordinated arrival of participating countries' 10 military ships in the Lora war port.

Participating in the exercise are troops from Belgium, France,
Greece, Italy, Bulgaria, Latvia, Romania, Slovenia, Albania,
Russia, Ukraine, Egypt, Algeria, and Croatia -- this year's host,
participating with two ships and one aircraft.
The main part of the exercise is due to take place in the channel
between the islands of Hvar and Brac on Sept. 19.
More than 500 people, 10 ships and five aircraft participate in the
exercise, which is conducted by Vice Admiral Ferdinando Sanfelice
di Monteforte, Commander Allied Naval Forces Southern Europe.
A number of workshops will be held at the Lora port and the Divulje
air base.
Joint Endeavour is a NATO exercise specifically conceived for the
Adriatic Sea which takes place every two years in a different
country.
