Talking to reporters in Lepoglava at the start of his visit to
Varazdin County's areas bordering with Slovenia, Mesic said border
areas in Europe were very developed and dynamic, "which is not the
case with us because not enough has been invested and there are no
legal provisions either".
Mesic also commented on politicians' reactions to his apology in
Belgrade earlier this week. He said he apologised for what Croatian
citizens had ever done to anyone anywhere.
Mesic said there were politicians like Croatian Bloc's Ivic Pasalic
"who think I should have boasted about our crimes... We have to
adopt European standards and develop good neighbourly relations
because they are prerequisites for economic development".
