ZAGREB, Sept 5 (Hina) - Around 6.9 million tourists vacationed along Croatia's coast in this year's first eight months, an increase of seven percent from the same time last year, accounting for 40.07 million overnight stays, an
increase of six percent, the National Tourist Board said on Friday.

The number of tourists on holiday along the coast in August alone
was 2.4 million, eight percent up from August 2002. They accounted
for 10 percent more overnight stays -- 16.1 million.
The highest number of overnight stays in the first eight months of
the year -- 15.5 million -- was logged in Dalmatia, an increase of 10
percent. In August alone, Dalmatia recorded 6.4 million
overnights, up 14 percent from August 2002.
Istria logged 14.6 million overnights in the year's first eight
months, up four percent from the same time last year, while in
August the figure stood at 5.6 million, seven percent more than in
August last year.
The Kvarner region recorded 9.9 million overnight stays in the
first eight months of the year, an increase of four percent from the
same time last year, of which 4.1 million in August, an increase of
eight percent.
The City of Zagreb logged 517,500 overnight stays in the year's
first eight months, an increase of 15 percent, of which 74,700 in
August, up 19 percent from August 2002.
In the first eight months of this year, domestic tourists accounted
for 4.3 million and foreigners for 35.7 million overnight stays.
The most numerous were the Germans, followed by holiday-makers from
Slovenia, Italy, the Czech Republic, Austria, Hungary, the
Netherlands, Poland, Slovakia, and Bosnia and Herzegovina.
