Prosecutors drop investigation into policeman over soccer fan's death in 2009

Autor: mses
MOSTAR, April 29 (Hina) - The prosecutorial authorities of the Western Herzegovina canton in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina have ceased an investigation against a policeman who was suspected of the killing of a fan of the Sarajevo football clubs in riots in the southern town of Siroki Brijeg in October 2009, the Mostar-based media reported on Friday.

The 18-month-long investigation against policeman Dragan Vujevic has been terminated while Oliver Knezovic, the prime suspect in the murder of Vedran Puljic, is still on the run in Croatia.

The prosecutors dropped the proceedings against Vujevic concluding that there was no evidence to issue an indictment against him.

An indictment against Knezovic cannot be issued either as long as he is beyond the reach of Bosnian investigators.

The 24-year-old Puljic was killed in clashes with the police and other football fans in Siroki Brijeg on 4 October 2009. Several dozen football fans and police officers were injured in clashes which erupted before the start of a match between Sarajevo and the local football club Siroki Brijeg. The match was cancelled. One local resident was also injured by firearms.
