Designer Miroslav Pelajic has said an American dealer interested in
selling the AD Brodovi sailboats on the U.S. market has recently
contacted the company. Pelajic is currently working on models to
suit U.S. requirements.
In the 12 months it has been manufacturing sailboats, AD Brodovi has
built and sold about 20 sailboats -- the 13.55m Salona 45 model and
the 12m Salona 40 model, which company representatives say have
been widely praised at German yachting fairs.
"In terms of navigation and amenities, our sailboats are among the
best in the world. They have excellent possibilities, they are top
quality and with regard to prices, for the moment they are twice
cheaper than similar models," says sales director Darko Tomasic.
The Salona 45 model, intended for family cruises and regattas,
costs 170,000 euros and is without competition in its class when one
takes into account navigation characteristics, quality and price,
Tomasic says, adding that AD Brodovi aims to crack the U.S. market
and manufacture 100 sailboats per year.
Tomasic hopes the first sales in America will take place next year.
AD Brodovi is already present on that market with the RIS and
Maestral life raft models.
The Solin-based company builds its boats under the supervision of
Germanischer Lloyd, equipping them with Volvo and Yanmar engines
which may develop a speed of 8-10 knots per hour.
The Salona 45 and Salona 40 models will be presented at a Genoa fair
in early October.
