Efforts to put the blaze under control are being hampered by a
strong wind and frequent changes in wind direction.
Shortly before midnight last night, a fire also broke out east of
Jelsa on the southern island of Hvar. It is spreading eastwards and
has consumed about 30 hectares of land. Rough terrain and strong
winds are making it difficult for local firefighters to contain the
fire.
The forest fire which erupted near the central Adriatic city of
Sibenik at around midnight last night and was brought under control
at 3.30 am has resumed due to strong winds, the Sibenik Fire Brigade
said on Sunday morning, adding that the blaze was under control.
