The chairman of the Croatian Democratic Union bench, Vladimir Seks,
accused the government of having tricked potential strategic
partners and buyers of INA shares and "of having furtively agreed
special terms with MOL and signed contracts selling a 50 percent
influence in the making of strategic decisions".
The president of the Croatian Social Liberal Party, Drazen Budisa,
said the objection to the debate represented the biggest
degradation and marginalisation of parliament since parliamentary
democracy was established in Croatia.
Democratic Centre president Mate Granic wondered how the
government would explain the refusal of a parliamentary debate to
the public.
When the entire opposition demands a debate, it is certain that the
government's refusal hides at least the wish to clear the high
external debt at any cost, if not something even worse, said
Granic.
Anto Kovacevic of the Croatian Party of Rights/Croatian Christian
Democratic Union said the bargain sale of Croatian companies had
touched rock bottom.
Zdravka Busic of the Croatian Bloc bench reiterated a parliamentary
debate on the privatisation of INA on Saturday would be pointless
given that the government would make a decision on the sale
tomorrow.
