ZAGREB, July 14 (Hina) - The Croatian Bishops' Conference's (HBK)
Permanent Council on Monday forwarded an appeal to the government
and the public, harshly protesting against the introduction of yoga
in public education institutions in Croatia. #L#
Interested individuals can satisfy their interests, but definitely
outside of the education system, the HBK Permanent Council said in
the appeal wondering "whose interests the education and sports
ministry is implementing and why it wants to include teachers in the
programme called 'Yoga in Everyday Life'".
"We believe it is unacceptable to introduce into Croatian education
institutions such programmes as are contrary to the generally
accepted system of values and the European cultural tradition," the
appeal said.
Should Croatia introduce this programme, it will make it possible
for associations to introduce the Hindu religious practice into
Croatian schools under the guise of exercises, without respecting
the necessary legal procedure, the appeal said.
