Mimica held talks with the Secretary General of the Council of
Europe, Walter Schwimmer, the Secretary General of the
Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, Bruno Heller, the
Director General of Legal Affairs, Guy de Vel, and the Director
General of Political Affairs, Klaus Schumann.
Legal instruments of the Council of Europe are considered as an
integral part of the European Union in many areas. Professional
assistance the Council of Europe extends to a given country is
therefore very important, as is evident from the experience of
present candidate countries, the statement said.
The statement added that an agreement was reached on broad
cooperation with the Council of Europe in a number of legal areas.
