Talking to the press in Djakovo, the PM said he personally advocated
the holding of the next parliamentary election in the second part of
November by which time, he added, a number of strategic issues
regarding Croatia's admission into the European Union had to be
resolved.
Asked about his cabinet's attitude towards the shipbuilding
industry and agriculture, Racan said it would take several years to
resolve problems in shipbuilding and that it remained to be seen if
this branch even had a future.
As for agriculture, the PM said its reform had been painful
everywhere in the world and, therefore, could not be painless in
Croatia either.
Speaking about the eastern region of Slavonia, Racan said that
besides the opening of the 5C international transport corridor,
more would be done to upgrade navigation along the Drava and the
Danube.
Accompanied by MPs and local officials, Racan visited Slavonia's
Djakovo today to attend the central event of the traditional
Djakovacki vezovi festivities, which this year feature 45 Croatian
and foreign folklore groups and around 5,000 participants.
The PM also attended mass in the Djakovo cathedral.
