OPATIJA, July 4 (Hina) - Presenting the Druzba Adria project of oil
transport from Russia to the Adriatic to local tourist authorities
in the Opatija area, the president of the JANAF managing board,
Vesna Trnokop-Tanta, on Friday said that it had been proved in 1990
that the transport of oil and success in tourism could go one with
another. #L#
According to Trnokop-Tanta, that year JANAF -- the Adriatic Oil
Pipeline -- realised the highest turnover in the transport of oil,
and tourism achieved the best results as well. Therefore, the aim of
this company is to again achieve the level from 1990.
Explaining the project to local authorities in the Opatija region
(northern Adriatic), she said Druzba Adria would use only the
existent capacities of JANAF, with necessary measures to modernise
them. The upgrading would have to be conducted even without
Croatia's joining in the Druzba Adria project. The entire job of
modernisation costs some 70 million US dollars. This, however, may
become questionable unless JANAF generates more earnings, she
explained.
Trnokop-Tanta said JANAF was also in favour of sustainable
development and the preservation of the Adriatic. She added that
there had been not one accident in the transport of oil which had
been carried out through JANAF pipelines since their
construction.
