SPLIT, June 22 (Hina) - At a reception organised on the occasion of
Anti-fascist Struggle Day on Sunday, Split-Dalmatia County prefect
Branimir Luksic suggested Croatia should introduce an anti-
communism day. #L#
Speaking at the event he organised together with Split mayor
Slobodan Beros, Luksic said that Anti-fascist Struggle Day
commemorated one of the three great evils of the past century and
added that fascism, Nazism and communism were "originally leftist
movements".
The fascist occupation made patriotic citizens join the anti-
fascist movement, but unfortunately, this was also a struggle for
the communist Yugoslavia, the prefect said.
"I wish you all the best for Anti-fascist Struggle Day, but I also
suggest that we introduce an anti-communism day," Luksic told
representatives of political parties, the army and the diplomatic
corps who attended the reception.
He called on Croatians to unify, regardless of which side they had
fought on during World War II, so that a Croat would never again
raise a hand against another Croat.
Mayor Slobodan Beros said the Croatian people had reason to be
grateful for the anti-fascist struggle because it had restored
Dalmatia and Istria into the motherland.
"The anti-fascist struggle is the foundation of modern society and
its development. Croatia's contribution to the struggle is
immeasurable," Beros stressed.
He recalled that there had been more than 120,000 anti-fascist
fighters in Dalmatia alone, as opposed to the minority which sided
with fascists.
