"In that area the languidity and inefficiency of state institutions
are evident," Bozanic said in an interview he gave the Rijeka-based
Novi List daily on Wednesday, ahead of the coming visit of Pope John
Paul II.
Zagreb Archbishop said Croatia still needed to remove remains of
parochial and communist mentality as it was poor when points were
scored by "slandering one's predecessors or those who are on the
opposite side." In this context he said that there would be no 2000
without 1990, alluding to the last parliamentary elections and
first multi-party elections respectively. The dignitary added that
one should respect the state and state institutions, and that "the
image others have of us is for the largest part created by our
correct or wrong moves or failures".
