ZAGREB, May 19 (Hina) - The measures the Croatian government adopted to assist farmers struck by the recent drought are welcome but insufficient, Agriculture Minister Bozidar Pankretic said on Monday at the first session of the
ministry's commission for the elimination of drought consequences.

Further measures need to be considered and proposals put to the
government as well as banks to get benefits, said the minister.
At today's meeting it was stated that 119,560 hectares of land in
Vukovar-Srijem County had been struck by the drought, with damage
estimated at over 202.9 million kuna (EUR27.2 mln).
The first estimates of the drought damage in Osijek-Baranja County
exceed 150 mln kuna (EUR20 mln), while in Pozega-Slavonia County
the damage stands at 191.6 mln kuna (EUR25.5 mln).
The damage in Virovitica-Podravina County is estimated at 113.2 mln
kuna (EUR15.1 mln), in Krapina-Zagorje County at 78 mln kuna
(EUR10.4 mln), and in Slavonski Brod-Posavina County at some 64 mln
kuna (EUR8.5 mln).
