On the occasion of tomorrow's International Conscientious
Objectors' Day, the ARKH issued a statement today in which it
recalled that it had taken 13 years for the law on non-combatant
service to be passed, although the institute of conscientious
objection was guaranteed in the 1990 Constitution.
The ARKH said that the passing of the law this February was
significant headway in the respect of conscientious objection.
Although the status of objectors improved with the passing of the
law, the law still contains provisions which are discriminatory or
unjust, says the statement.
This particularly pertains to the unequal duration of military and
non-combatant services and the lack of guarantee that non-
combatants would be given wages.
