Sending their applications to Vojvodina authorities for financial
funds for 22 projects, ten Croatian societies have asked for less
than seven million dinars (i.e. some 108,000 euros). The Vojvodina
authorities, however, previously ensured 620,000 dinars (approx.
less than EUR10,000) for this purpose.
Seeing that the approved funds would not be sufficient, members of
the commission set up within the Croatian National Council, on
Tuesday decided to distribute the same shares to all the
institutions which had applied for financial aid.
The Vojvodina authorities are financing the activities of more than
20 ethnic minorities, besides the Croatian community.
The chairman of the commission and of the executive committee of the
Croatian National Council, Lazo Vojnic Hajduk, said they were
expecting higher financial assistance to be given by their ethnic
motherland, Croatia.
In Vojvodina there are about 30 Croatian institutions and
organisations which preserve and promote the heritage and culture
of this ethnic minority in that part of Serbia.
The Croatian National Council in Serbia-Montenegro last week asked
Croatia's foreign ministry to secure EUR94,950 for its work.
The council applied for the assistance within a programme envisaged
by the ministry for ethnic Croats living abroad.
