"Croatia can carry out internal reforms and meet criteria necessary
for membership of the EU by the end of 2006. By the end of 2007
Croatia can formally become a member of the European association,"
Mimica said.
"We do not want to be compared with Romania, Bulgaria or any other
country, and we know that we have to do our homework on the path to
the EU," said the minister.
Mimica said that the biggest problem in Croatia's drawing closer to
Euro-Atlantic associations was the solution of three issues -- the
return of refugees, cooperation with the International Criminal
Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia and the judicial reform.
At the end of his two-day working visit to Austria's capital, Mimica
will hold a lecture on Croatia's economic policy and integration
with the EU.
