The Slovene national programme envisages that the final decision on
disposal of nuclear waste from the Krsko nuclear power plant and the
Podgorica research reactor near Ljubljana be passed by 2020, while
final disposal should be completed by 2050.
Also, an earlier decision that both facilities be shut down by 2023
remains in force.
The scenario for shutting down the only nuclear power plant in
Slovenia remains the same: at least ten years before it is shut down
a decision must be made to this effect, while a decision on the final
disposal of used fuel and nuclear waste has been postponed. Used
fuel will be deposited indefinitely in the plant's pool which will
be enlarged this year.
