PRISTINA, April 15 (Hina) - Kosovo President Ibrahim Rugova has
opposed the idea of imposing a moratorium on instigating a process
for finding the final solution regarding Kosovo's status. #L#
The president of the Democratic Party of Kosovo, Hashim Thaqi, last
week proposed that Kosovo and Serbia, with the international
community's mediation, impose a moratorium on Kosovo's status for a
certain period.
Rugova said such a proposal was "politically irresponsible". He
believes Kosovo is in the process of building its institutions and
insists on a formal recognition of Kosovo's independence, with
previous cooperation between the U.S. and the EU.
Thaqi's proposal on the moratorium has been immediately supported
by UN Civil Administrator Michael Stenier and the heads of the
offices of Western countries in Kosovo.
Albanian political parties in Kosovo, headed by the leading party -
- the Kosovo Democratic Alliance -- have dismissed Thaqi's idea.
