PRISTINA, April 8 (Hina) - By the end of this year, institutions in Kosovo will assume all authorities stipulated by U.N. Security Council Resolution 1244, except for those reserved for the UN Mission to Kosovo (UNMIK), the civilian
administrator to Kosovo, Michael Steiner, said on Tuesday after the first session of the high council for transferring authorities from UNMIK to Kosovo's interim self-governing institutions.
PRISTINA, April 8 (Hina) - By the end of this year, institutions in
Kosovo will assume all authorities stipulated by U.N. Security
Council Resolution 1244, except for those reserved for the UN
Mission to Kosovo (UNMIK), the civilian administrator to Kosovo,
Michael Steiner, said on Tuesday after the first session of the high
council for transferring authorities from UNMIK to Kosovo's
interim self-governing institutions. #L#
The authorities to be assumed by Kosovo institutions pertain to the
economy, social policy and education among others.
Steiner said special rights relating to foreign affairs, security
and the rights of minorities would remain in his jurisdiction.
He voiced regret that Serb representatives had not attended the
council session, but said the process was still open.
The administrator said that the transfer of authority had nothing
to do with the final status of Kosovo.
