ZAGREB, March 11 (Hina) - At Tuesday's meeting with Croatian President Stjepan Mesic, the chairwoman of the Stability Pact's working table for democratisation and human rights, Elizabeth Rehn, congratulated the president on Croatia's
application for membership of the EU, Mesic's office reported.

Mesic spoke about the tasks Croatia was facing on its path towards
the EU, advocating an expedient return of refugees and displaced
persons, free property management, cooperation with the
international war crimes tribunal and the transformation of the
Croatian Radio Television into a public institution.
Rehn was especially interested in the development of events on the
Croatian political scene and the situation in the media. She
asserted that sensationalism, as a means of stirring the public's
interest, was also used by many media in countries with a developed
democracy, the president's office said.
