During her visit to Brussels on Thursday where she met EU officials,
Carla del Ponte said she had reliable information that Bosnian Serb
war-time leader Karadzic was shuttling between the Bosnian Serb
areas and Montenegro and that he was from time to time staying in the
Orthodox monastery "Ostrog" near the Montenegrin city of Niksic.
The Chief Prosecutor of the International Criminal Tribunal for the
former Yugoslavia (ICTY), added that the it was necessary to show
political will to nab Karadzic and that she had recently told this
to Montenegrin Premier Milo Djukanovic.
Interior Minister Milan Filipovic said on Thursday evening that his
ministry had no information that Karadzic was residing in
Montenegro.
The minister was quoted by the national television as saying that he
was surprised at the chief prosecutor's assertion, given that he
had no indications about Karadzic's whereabouts in Montenegro.
"We shall certainly pay attention to and take all the necessary
measures so as to check del Ponte's statements," Filipovic added.
Justice Minister Zeljko Sturanovic also denied her statements.
