About 30,000 Zagreb citizens greeted the new year in the central square of the Croatian capital. The celebration started at 05.30 pm on New Year's Eve and lasted until early Wednesday morning. Over 20,000 residents of the biggest Croatian coastal city also packed the central square and Riva in Split to welcome the new year. Members of an association called "Blue Planet" waited for midnight in cages of the Split Zoo to warn of poor conditions animals in this zoo live in. About 18,000 residents and guests also enjoyed an open-air celebration in the Adriatic resort of Dubrovnik. Instead of a fireworks display, Dubrovnik residents and their guests let 6,000 balloons fly into the air at midnight. Some 5,000 people gathered in the main square in the seaport of R
