"A three-year-old child was found dead and that is the first tragic case," said Vinko Ljubicic, who is in charge of Croatian diplomatic missions and consular offices.
There have been no reports about other Croatian citizens who may have been killed in the disaster.
The Croatian press today reported that the three-year-old girl, the child of Helena Mencer Slot, a Croatian married to a Dutchman, had disappeared in a tidal wave in the town of Krabi in Thailand.
The child's mother suffered a serious injury to her lung and had to undergo an operation in a local hospital. The press were provided with the information by the child's grandmother, the head of Zagreb University, Helena Jasna Mencer.
