The head of the ministry's department for diplomatic missions and consular offices, Vinko Ljubicic, said the ministry was contacted on Sunday by the families and friends of some 30 Croatian citizens. "About 50 percent of them have contacted their families in the meantime and we consider them not to be in danger," Ljubicic said.
It is believed that Croatian citizens who were in South Asia at the time of the earthquake are mostly individual tourists travelling on their own and not people working there, Ljubicic said.
Phone lines with the quake-hit areas are not operating, which may be the reason why some 15 citizens have still not contacted their families, Ljubicic said.
There have been no reports confirming than any of those citizens was killed in the earthquake, the ministry said.
