Decisions to send soldiers, police or civilian personnel to international peace missions will still be made by the state presidency, but they will become valid only if confirmed by Parliament within two months.
In some cases, depending on the peace mission, decisions on participation may be made by the state ministries, but also with Parliament's consent.
The law adopted today stipulates that citizens of Bosnia-Herzegovina may participate in operations aimed at preventing conflict, establishing and implementing peace, in relief operations in case of natural or ecological disasters, and in operations by international security and defence organisations which Bosnia is a member of.
Bosnian police and army officers are already taking part as military observers in several peace missions worldwide under the patronage of the UN.
The state presidency decided earlier this year to send 30 mine-clearing experts to Iraq next spring, eliciting numerous protests over the risk Bosnia was undertaking.
