Petersen sent a letter to Kostunica proposing dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina primarily about safety and security, which is of particular importance to Kosovo Serbs.
In the letter to Kostunica, who had recently insisted on annulling the appointment of the new Kosovo prime minister, Petersen said that there was no constitutional or legal basis to justify the annulment of Ramush Haradinaj's election as prime minister.
As Kostunica's response to Petersen's proposal is being expected, UN Deputy Civil Administrator Lary Rossin held talks with Serbia's envoy for Kosovo, Nebojsa Covic, and informed him that the UN Mission in Kosovo was unhappy to see Belgrade permanently discouraging Kosovo Serbs in their attempts to take part in political activities in the area.
