"Ivas stole Cehok's vote," Vuljanic told a news conference, adding that this should be reason for Ivas to leave the Sabor or at least resign as the head of the legislation committee.
"I will not take part in the work of the committee as long as it is led by such a dishonest man," Vuljanic said.
He added that Ivas's conduct mirrored the moral profile of the ruling HDZ.
Another HNS deputy to the parliament, Dragutin Lesar, criticised Prime Minsiter Ivo Sanader's plans to call local elections for mid-April instead for May. The explanation that the municipal elections should be held a month before in order to ensure enough time for southern areas to prepare for the tourist season is a poor pretext, according to Lesar.
He also slammed the scrapping of plans about the direct election of mayors and heads of municipalities.
Lesar went on to say that during the coalition government, when the HNS was also in power, it advocated the direct election of mayors, but the initiative was obstructed by the coalition partners SDP (Social Democrats) and HSS (Peasant Party).
