"Although the view of the President of Republika Srpska is that sanctions do not help improve the situation, but as a rule produce a crisis of institutions and a political crisis, a part of the international community certainly does not think so," the Office of the Bosnian Serb President said in a statement on Wednesday.
The statement said that del Ponte's report would make the position of the Bosnian Serb entity even more difficult in relations with the international community and that international pressure would certainly increase to ensure that persons indicted for war crimes were located and arrested.
Cavic pointed out that Republika Srpska had offered the international peacekeeping force in Bosnia-Herzegovina and authorities in Serbia-Montenegro its cooperation at all levels. He noted that authorities in Serbia-Montenegro were not fully ready for operational cooperation with relevant Bosnian Serb institutions "mainly because of political problems in Serbia-Montenegro", but added that the situation had improved after several meetings of high-level officials from Republika Srpska and Serbia.
