The construction of the bridge was financed with government funds and a loan of the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development. The bridge is part of a project facilitating trade and transport in south-east Europe.
The project also includes the construction of another three border crossings in Croatia - at Maljevac, Gunja and Slavonski Brod. The project, which is aimed at reducing trade and transport costs and preventing smuggling and corruption on border crossings, is expected to be completed by the end of the year. It will be financed with a 14.8-million-euro loan to be provided by the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development.
The head of the World Bank's regional office, Anand K. Seth, expressed satisfaction with the implementation of joint projects and cooperation with the Croatian government so far.
The border crossing at Slavonski Samac is situated near the state road D7 Osijek-Djakovo-Slavonski Samac.
