The ILH delegation at the talks in Zagreb also included the ILH Chairman from Graz, Helmut Moritz, and Bosnian Catholic Bishop Franjo Komarica from the northwestern area of Banja Luka, who is also ILH Vice Chairman.
The ILH delegation asked of the Croatian government to let the fifth world congress of humanists, scheduled for September 2005 in Dubrovnik, be organised under the government's auspices.
The topics of the talks with Sanader were problems of globalisation, the position small and medium-sized peoples, peace and humanism, Surlan told reporters.
He added that the ILH, which gathered Nobel Prize winners and prominent public figures from over 135 countries, would like to help Croatia join European institutions as soon as possible,
Commenting on the position of Catholics in the Bosnian Serb entity, Bishop Komarica pointed out that of 220,000 Catholics only 12,000 had so far returned to their pre-war homes in the Republic of Srpska.
Urging politicians to make it possible for all refugees to return to their homes, the dignitary pointed the finger at European politicians accusing them of behaving like criminals towards Bosnia-Herzegovina, notably local Croats. He went on to say that in Bosnia the law of the stronger rather than the rule of law was at work.
