The conference, entitled "Efficient Democratic Administration at Local and Regional Levels", will focus on ways of improving local administration through debates on the development of institutional and taxation frameworks, programmes and strategies aimed at increasing the capabilities of local institutions, prospects for national associations of local authorities, the role of the central government in building democratic institutions at local and regional levels, and the importance of the contribution of the international community to achieving these goals.
The meeting at the Opera Hotel will be attended by Albanian and Macedonian local government ministers Ben Blushi and Aleksandar Gestakovski, Bosnian and Montenegrin justice ministers Borjana Kristo and Zeljko Sturanovic, Serbia and Montenegro's public administration and local government minister Zoran Loncar, Bulgarian deputy regional development minister Petja Gegova, Romanian state secretary at the Ministry of Administration and the Interior Marius Constantin Profirou, Slovene state secretary at the Interior Ministry Astrid Prasnikar, and Croatian deputy prime minister Jadranka Kosor. Opening remarks will be made by Croatian prime minister Ivo Sanader.
