RIJEKA, Oct 12 (Hina) - A parliamentary deputy and vice-president of
the Istrian Democratic Assembly (IDS), Damir Kajin, on Thursday dismissed as
untrue claims that the government would not hand over runaway Hague tribunal
indictee Ante Gotovina if it knew his whereabouts."The government would rather see the Hague tribunal deal with Gotovina
than with members of the political leadership from the period which Gotovina is
indicted for," Kajin said.
Kajin believes that the European Union's making the start of membership
negotiations conditional on Gotovina's hand-over would encourage
Euro-scepticism among Croatian citizens and could become the prevalent
attitude.
This would be disastrous for Croatia's future because the country cannot
be on its own at the time when Europe is uniting, Kajin said.
