PRISTINA, Sept 28 (Hina) - European Union High Representative for theCommon Foreign and Security Policy Javier Solana said in Pristina onFriday that after the parliamentary election in October, the U.N.Mission in Kosovo should transfer as much authority as possible toKosovo institutions.
PRISTINA, Sept 28 (Hina) - European Union High Representative for the Common Foreign and Security Policy Javier Solana said in Pristina on Friday that after the parliamentary election in October, the U.N. Mission in Kosovo should transfer as much authority as possible to Kosovo institutions.

After talks with U.N civil administrator Soeren Jessen Petersen, Solana called on Serbs to take part in the parliamentary elections scheduled for October 23.

Petersen told reporters that the process of implementing standards set by the international community must be accelerated so that a debate on Kosovo's final status could be launched in mid-2005.

Solana stressed that unless those standards were met, talks on Kosovo's final status could not be launched.

The EU officials also visited the reconstructed houses of Serbs which were damaged during the March ethnic violence in the province.

He stressed that all displaced people must return to their homes.
