"Israel will most probably open its embassy in Zagreb by the end of the year," an Israeli source told Hina and added that a team of experts would arrive in Zagreb as early as in October to start preparations for the opening of the diplomatic office.
The Israeli Foreign Ministry has already invited applications for the post of the ambassador in Croatia.
Croatia and Israel established diplomatic relations in 1997 after which the two countries intensified their relations. In 1998 the then Croatian Foreign Minister Mate Granic officially visited Israel and the two countries' good relations were confirmed in 2001 when Croatian President Stjepan Mesic visited Israel and last year after Israeli President Mosha Katsav returned the visit last year.
So far, Israel has been covering Croatia from its embassy in Vienna which was apart from Croatia also in charge for Austria, Slovenia and Slovakia.
