ZAGREB, Sept 23 (Hina) - Croatian Parliament President Vladimir Seks on Thursday strongly condemned the latest incident on the Croatian-Slovene border, when a group of Slovene parliamentarians illegally crossed the border, describing it as "another one in a series of conscious and intentional acts of provocation serving the election campaign".

Seks read to MPs a letter by Slovene Parliament President Feri Horvat condemning the incident and "the use of force against Slovene parliamentarians" and requesting that the Croatian parliament make its stand on the matter public.

Seks said that by arresting the Slovene nationals the Croatian police acted in line with law, because they violated Croatian laws.

The Croatian police on Wednesday afternoon arrested a group of 12 Slovene citizens, who were arrested while trying to illegally enter Croatia near the border crossing of Plovanija. Among the arrested was Slovene People's Party leader Janez Podobnik.

Seks recalled that similar incidents were happening before every parliamentary election in Slovenia.

He believes that the nature of the incident was best described with Podobnik's statement, given after his release, that they "only wanted to plant a lime-tree on Slovene soil in the garden of their friend Josko Joras".

Accepting a proposal by Damir Kajin of the Istrian Democratic Assembly (IDS) and Anto Djapic of the Croatian People's Party (HSP), Seks called a session of the Committee on Foreign Policy, which should voice its position on the incident during the day. The matter will then be discussed by the parliament.
