Sanader and Bush met on Tuesday evening at a reception the U.S. president staged for the annual meeting of the United Nations General Assembly.
Sanader told Croatian reporters on Wednesday the conversation with Bush was courteous and did not address the political aspect of Croatia's cooperation with the United States. He said that no outstanding issues between the two countries were mentioned.
The Croatian PM was interested in the course of the U.S. presidential campaign. "He seemed very confident of winning," said Sanader. He added that when Bush asked him about the situation in Croatia, he said "that our two priorities, which the president is familiar with, are NATO and the European Union".
At the Croatian Mission to the U.N. yesterday, Sanader met with representatives of B'Nai B'Rith, the American Jewish Committee and the Anti-Defamation League, who were interested in Croatia's priorities and orientation.
Sanader said he told them joining the EU and NATO were the foreign policy priorities, "while on the home front we want to build a society of tolerance, respect for human and minority rights, rule of law, and social-market economy".
Today Sanader met his Albanian counterpart Nano, describing the meeting as a continuation of good relations between Croatia and Albania.
Tonight Sanader is due to address the 59th annual U.N. General Assembly.
