OSIJEK, Sept 8 (Hina) - Preparations are under way for the construction of a mosque in the eastern Croatian city of Osijek, the head of the Islamic community in the area, Enes Poljic, said on Wednesday.

The construction will begin after a building permit and all other necessary permits are obtained and after funds are secured, Poljic said.

He said that there had been no negative responses from the public and that he had received support from many residents of Osijek.

Poljic said that there were up to 5,000 Muslims in Osijek-Baranja County, of whom about 1,000 were active members of the Islamic community.
