ZAGREB, Sept 2 (Hina) - Croatia's Minister of the Sea, Tourism,
Transport and Development, Bozidar Kalmeta, on Thursday visited construction
sites along the Zagreb-Macelj highway, expressing satisfaction with the model
of construction of "one of the most difficult and most demanding highways in
Croatia".Construction costs total 270 million euros and the entire project costs
370 million euros.
Kalmeta said he was dissatisfied with Slovenia not keeping up with
Croatia's pace in highway construction.
Considering Croatia's status as an EU candidate and the fact that
Slovenia became an EU member in May, Kalmeta said he expected the EU to exert
pressure on Slovenia so it would speed up the construction of its highways and
make it possible for Croatia to connect to the EU.
The Zagreb-Macelj highway stretches from the end of the Zagreb suburb of
Jankomir northwest to Macelj, on the Croatian-Slovene border.
