It was said that the bilateral relations were excellent, that there were no outstanding issues and that the relations had been additionally intensified over the past few months through meetings of top government officials.
Particular emphasis was placed on the need to develop economic ties, and the oil and gas industries, tourism, infrastructure projects, possible joint ventures in third markets and the use of seaports and free trade zones were cited as possible areas of cooperation.
In this context Seks welcomed a proposal to establish a Joint Committee for Economic and Trade Cooperation.
The two officials also exchanged views about the current security situation in the Near East, particularly about the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and the Iraqi crisis.
Seks said that Croatia supported a peaceful and just political settlement that would result in a lasting peace and security in that region.
Croatia is primarily interested in participating in the economic reconstruction of Iraq, while the involvement of Croatian armed forces in Iraq would be possible only with the UN mandate and approval of the Croatian Parliament, the statement said.
Croatia asked Jordan to support its candidacy for non-permanent membership of the UN Security Council for the 2008-2009 period.
The two sides expressed satisfaction with the plan to step up parliamentary cooperation, which should start with Seks's official visit to Jordan at the invitation of the speaker of the lower house of the Jordanian parliament.
