ZAGREB, Aug 18 (Hina) - Deputy Chief State Prosecutor Dragan Novosel
said on Tuesday that the Dubrovnik County State Prosecutor's Office appealed on
Monday against the decision of a Dubrovnik County Court investigating judge
to release from detention former Metkovic mayor Stipe Gabric Jambo, whom the
Prosecutor's Office suspected of abusing his position and committing white
collar crime. The appeal has been filed and the court will discuss it but there is no
deadline by which the court is expected to make a decision, Novosel told Hina
over the phone.
On August 12 a government commissioner for the town of Metkovic, Ivica
Vidovic, pressed criminal charges with the Metkovic police against Gabric,
accusing him of several acts of white collar crime.
Gabric claims he was on a business trip to Montenegro at the time.
Police issued a warrant for Gabric's arrest on August 13 and he was
apprehended in Dubrovnik last Monday.
Gabric Jambo was released on Monday after appearing before an
investigating judge of the Dubrovnik County Court.
