OTOCAC, Aug 10 (Hina) - Speaking about intentions to erect a monument
to Ustasha official Mile Budak in Sveti Rok, Democratic Centre (DC) party vice
president Josko Moric said on Tuesday it was inconceivable to build monuments
to people from the Nazi puppet Independent State of Croatia (1941-5), which he
described as an unhappy time of the Croatian people's history.
Speaking to reporters in Otocac, 120 km southwest of Zagreb, Moric voiced
confidence the residents of Sveti Rok would contribute so that such a monument
"doesn't happen".
As for Croatia's cooperation with the U.N. war crimes tribunal in The
Hague, Moric said the DC advocated completely ridding the cooperation of
politics and believed the truth about Croatia's early 1990s war of independence
could objectively be established only at national courts.
