Recalling his meeting with the Pontiff in Croatia last year, Mesic
thanked him for his whole-hearted support to Croatia in a bid to join
European integration processes, and reiterated that to achieve
European standards would be of the utmost importance not only for
Croatia but also for the entire region.
The Croatian head of state went on to say that the Pope's engagement
in efforts to build just peace among nations and his messages
promoting ecumenism were of particular importance for this multiethnic
and multireligious part of Europe.
