ZAGREB, May 5 (Hina) - The Croatian government on Wednesday issued a statement dismissing a report published in a daily which says that the number of state officials has increased by 30 percent since the change of authority.

statement dismissing a report published in a daily which says that the
number of state officials has increased by 30 percent since the change

Under the Law on the Rights and Duties of State Officials, 240 persons
had the status of a state official on 22 December 2003. Since the
change of authority, the number of state officials has increased to
244, the government said in the statement adding that the report was
based on superficial and wrong estimates.
"Jutarnji list" daily of Wednesday reported that the number of state
officials had increased by 30 percent since the change of authority in
November last year. On each former deputy minister, two-three state
secretaries were appointed and in some ministries the number of
assistant ministers increased as well, the daily reported.
