Bosnia-Herzegovina has its place in the European Union. It is as much
a European country as are the ten states that have just joined the
European Union. But how much time this will take depends on
Bosnia-Herzegovina, Ashdown said in a statement released by his office
on Sunday.
The desire to join the European Union unites the citizens of
Bosnia-Herzegovina just as it has the citizens of countries that
joined the EU yesterday, the statement added.
There is a long way ahead of us, but the first step comes already in
June when NATO decides whether to admit Bosnia-Herzegovina to the
Partnership for Peace programme, the High Representative said, adding
that the country's admission to the Alliance and its future will
depend on whether Republika Srpska is capable of truly demonstrating a
seriousness in arresting war crimes indictees.
