The seminar, which pooled some 20 prosecutors and members of the
Office for the Fight Against Corruption and Organised Crime (USKOK)
and 20 police officials investigating organised crime, was organised
by the Interior Ministry and the US Embassy.
The head of the Interior Ministry's crime police department, Dragutin
Cestar, told reporters the seminar was part of long-time successful
cooperation between the US government and the Croatian police in
training police staff to combat crime. So far such courses have been
attended by several hundred members of the Interior Ministry.
A senior FBI agent, Denis Moose, said that the seminar placed emphasis
on cooperation between the prosecution and police in combating
organised criminal groups.
He voiced hope that the experience of the United States in fighting
the Mafia and drug dealers would help the Croatian police in the fight
against organised crime.
